Why Guspus was started
A working day with no right trousers
Ravi is a design consultant for a US-based company. He works half the week at home and half at the office, and most days run long.
Formal trousers were stiff in the heat. Joggers looked wrong outside the house. Nothing he owned suited the whole day.
The parcels that said linen
He ordered “linen blend” trousers online more than once. Each time, the fabric that arrived was polyester.
A tailor and a few metres of cotton
He bought cotton from a fabric shop and had a local tailor stitch a pair. After a few fittings, and a switch to a cotton-linen blend, he wore them most days.
When friends asked where the trousers were from, he had to tell them they were not sold anywhere. Guspus was started so that they would be.
Two founders
Ravi and Pankaj have been friends since childhood. Ravi looks after fit and design. Pankaj, who comes from the textile industry, looks after fabric and production.
The name
Guspus is a Gujarati word for the quiet, friendly gossip between two friends when they notice someone who is well dressed.
What Guspus makes
Men's trousers in cotton, linen and cotton-linen blends, priced between ₹1,500 and ₹2,500. Natural fibres let air through and absorb moisture, which is what a long day in Indian weather needs.
Cotton. Linen. Nothing else. No polyester, nylon or acrylic in any fabric. The full composition is printed on the label and listed on the product page. Jo likha hai, wahi hai.
Waistband elastic and sewing thread are not cotton or linen, and we list them on every product page.
